Nneka – Building Bridges to Africa’s Future
|
“Music is moving me around. Love is moving me around. It’s something I do with passion and that is what keeps me alive and keeps me going. Life without passion would not make sense for me.”
-Nneka
The Artist:
Despite having released her full-length album debut just last year, in February 2010, Nneka has already established herself as a true world citizen. She was born and raised in Warri, part of the Nigerian Delta region, daughter to a Nigerian father and German mother. At the age of 18, Nneka left Africa to pursue her education and establish herself as a singer in Germany. The duality of her upbringing and life experiences is an integral part of Nneka’s music, giving her a unique perspective on the major sociopolitical issues affecting Europe, Africa, and often the rest of the world. Her voice brings the wisdom and tradition of Nigeria into sync with the youthful, revolutionary vitality of the post-Berlin Wall Germany.
For years, Nneka has tirelessly toured the globe, connecting with Africans, Europeans, and Americans alike. Her live performances have garnered incredible acclaim, giving listeners an intense and intimate glimpse into the heart and soul of this so-called “Afro-German warrior princess.” Her music is indeed a fearless assault on the social issues of crime, war, and poverty, a charge that has become stronger in numbers following every one of her performances. Nneka’s voice has given countless people hope that the citizens of every nation can work together to build a future of peace, justice, and equality.
And she has only just begun her journey.
You can hear all of the insight, soul, and personality that Nneka brings as a performer in the song, “Express Yourself,” which will be featured on the upcoming soundtrack to the conscious Hip Hop dance film Beat the World. This song also happens to feature another standout artist – the iconic Ziggy Marley. The Song:
“It is difficult to see this tiny powerhouse perform without realizing how special she is, or how important of a platform the global musical stage is for raising social awareness. In meeting her and working together, that energy becomes even stronger and the integrity and compassion of her very being that much more apparent.” – Frank Fitzpatrick
